Halloween Cockroach Cake

Ingredients
COCKROACH CAKE
1 cup chopped dates
1 tsp baking soda
1 1⁄2 cups boiling water
3⁄4 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1⁄2 tspSea Salt (Grinder)
1⁄2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp pure cocoa
1⁄2 cup milk Belgian chocolate
TOPPING
1⁄2 cup sugar
1⁄2 cup chopped dates
1⁄2 cup milk Belgian chocolate
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 325° F (170° C).
- Cover dates with baking soda and water. Let stand until cool.
- Cream together shortening, eggs and sugar. Combine both mixtures and beat well.
- Add flour, baking soda, vanilla extract, pure cocoa and chocolate chips. Pour into a parchment lined 9” x 13” pan.
- Mix topping ingredients and spread over cake batter. Bake at 325° F (170° C) for 40 minutes.
